Depression Is Caused By Our Thoughts

Under: Depression

Depression doesn’t happen overnight. We’re not tiptoeing through the tulips feeling gay and frivolous one day, and the next, lying on our backs, overcome by crippling depression. Neither do our neurotransmitters suddenly decide to go completely off the rails.

The truth of the matter is that depression is caused by our thoughts. The whole point of this article is to show how we become depressed originally. We’ve looked at symptoms, we’ve examined what we feel like when in the grip of depression; how we are quite unable to pursue our hobbies or even work. We simply want to sit or lie there, and when we move, all we feel is pain.

But everything has to have a beginning and depression is no exception. It’ll probably start off with an unresolved worry. Something that nags at us, and worse, something we can’t let go. It’s probably in the backs of our minds for a considerable time, and may be anything. But something for which we simply can’t find an answer.

Let’s suppose we’re an archaeologist. We’ve been asked to give a talk to the local archaeological club about the site of a known battle some five miles away that took place in the 6th. century.

Now, you’re a professional, not only in archaeology, but you also hold professorships in ancient and medieval history. You’ve excavated the remains found on the battlefield, formed your conclusions and together with your wide knowledge of history, you’ve put together what almost certainly occurred.

You know a lot more than your listeners, who are merely keen amateurs. The lecture finishes and on the way out, you happen to overhear someone say; “Yes, wasn’t a bad lecture, but he was talking a load of rubbish about the final outcome.”

You recognize the person as someone who’s never short of a criticism about anything, but his remark stings you. You happen to see him in the pub later on, but instead of going over to him and politely saying that you overheard his remark, found it interesting and would like to discuss it further, you simply let it fester.

You know perfectly well that he’s wrong, that if you spoke to him you’d have no trouble in pointing out the error of his ways, but the remark simply sits in your mind, rolling back and forth and like a snowball, becomes bigger and bigger. There’s no solution, simply because you haven’t allowed there to be a solution.

It would be so easy to lay the matter to rest, but instead you simply ruminate on it and prove that depression is caused by our thoughts. The slight caused by this person becomes larger and larger in your mind, until it even affects your sleep.

You find yourself dreaming excessively. Far too much R.E.M. sleep and consequently awake in the morning, exhausted, because you haven’t had the restful sleep your body so urgently needs.

If you keep on along this path, then things can only worsen and before you know it, you have full-blown depression.

Identifying the Symptoms of Candidiasis

Candidiasis is the common name given to an overgrowth of candida within the body. Normally the candida is kept in check by the beneficial bacteria within the body but if the immune system is weakened then the candida can expand and grow. Typically the worst symptoms are a couple of days of diarrhea, but if the body defenses are severely weakened then this can allow the candida to gain a foothold and spread further.

Superficial infections in the mouth, the vagina or skin problems are normally more obvious and easier to treat. If the infection is in the stomach and spreads to the intestine this can be much harder to detect and can be misdiagnosed. It could take weeks or months to discover and in the meantime cause a large amount of discomfort and pain.

Oral candida, commonly known as thrush, is quite easy to recognize. Usually the tongue will have white patches that look like milk. There may also be patches around the corner of the mouth that feel tender. There are various treatments available which can clear this up quite quickly.

Candida overgrowth in the vagina can be recognized by itching, soreness and dry skin. There may be a white discharge which will be different to normal, either by smell or appearance. It is important to get this diagnosed as some STD’s mimic these symptoms and it could be something different altogether.

Candida on the skin can occur on the web between the toes and fingers and other areas that sweat. Generally it is just redness and itching but can be quite painful if left alone. Normally creams and preventive measures can clear this up quite quickly.

Candidiasis in the stomach or intestines has its own range of symptoms and problems it causes. They will differ from person to person in severity but in general terms they are all similar. They include bloating of the stomach, constipation and excess gas. It is not unusual to feel full, even if you haven’t eaten recently. Food cravings, especially for sugary foods, are normal. If you have ever watched yeast cultures grow or bread dough proving then you will understand what is happening in the stomach. Since candidiasis interferes with the extraction of nutrients from the food that is eaten the sufferer will feel tired and run down. Also cold and flu symptoms are usual.

If left untreated the candida will turn fungal and lay roots into the lining of the stomach and intestine. This is known as ‘leaky gut syndrome’ and can cause enough problems on its own. This allows entry of toxins from the stomach into the bloodstream which can cause dizziness, fatigue, muscle pain, respiratory problems, acne, hives, eczema and generally feeling irritable. All of these make it very difficult to actually diagnose the problem.

A further complication, known as candidemia, is when the yeast toxins or spores enter the bloodstream. This can be as a result of the ‘leaky gut syndrome’, injury or after invasive surgery. This will allow the spores to settle in areas of the vital organs, joints or eyes causing further damage.

The symptoms of candidiasis, while similar to many other ailments, can be quite easy to pick out. Consuming large amounts of yeast foods, cravings for yeast and sugar foods and generally feeling run down are all good indicators. Candidiasis if left unchecked can be extremely painful and in some cases fatal. If there is any indication of an infection then it should be diagnosed and treated immediately.

Dealing OCD Disorder

There’s nothing wrong with double-checking the wires if they are left unplugged before leaving the house with no one in it. Of course you would want to be precautious about negligent things and circumstances that could lead into devastating outcomes which could affect you. But what if this kind precaution would go on and recur in every minute every second of every time? Then there might be something wrong with you. You might have an OCD disorder. If you have this, then you better find a way to overcome it or it will interfere into your daily activities and worse, it could render you into a helpless unfortunate condition. Although you have to understand that it’s quite difficult to shake OCD disorder off from your system and it would require an ample amount of time to finally overcome one.

If you have an obsessive-compulsive disorder or your love one has it, it would be natural that you feel alone and helpless and isolated. But nevertheless, there is still help out there where you can make use of to get rid of it. There are many existing self-help strategies and treatments at large, you can just easily pick one that will best work for you.

But what is OCD?

OCD or Obsessive-Compulsive disorder is an anxiety disorder best explained or characterized by relentlessness, uncontrollable impulses and irrational reactions. They become repetitive and you can’t somehow get rid of it or set it aside even because you realistically feel compelled to obey them. When you have an OCD, it would be likely that you are at the same time conscious of what’s happening and aware that what you are doing is irrational. But even if that’s the case, you still are unable to fight it against it and break loose.

Like faint stain of an ink blot on a metal surface, when you have an OCD wiping it off once will not be enough to make you believe that the results are satisfactory, although you are already aware that the blot is no longer there and the surface is already clean. You will repetitively do the wiping as you would perceive it to be necessary although you already know that it is not. Your brain signals you this kind of urge and will make you do the same thing all over and over again. That’s why a person with OCD feels like a prisoner, helpless in his situation.

What you need to know about obsession and compulsion

Obsession is unwanted involuntary thoughts, images or urge that repeats itself every time. It recurs again and again in your head and you just can’t shake it off no matter how much you want to get rid of it. As a corollary consequence, your reactions would cater to the unnecessary urges or your obsession making you do things corresponding to your urge.

Compulsions are basically behaviours or rituals that you feel you compelled to execute repetitively. Compulsions are often the result or the actions you would have to take to get rid of obsessions. But as obsessions never go away, your compulsions remain and executed again and again.

Many doctors and health care professionals frown on the practice of squeezing your zits. They are of the opinion that squeezing causes more infections to spread and increased damage to the skin – which is actually true if you squeeze the freshly surfaced acne. In this article, we will take a look at the correct way to squeeze your zits.

If you look at blackheads, you see a solid lump with a pigmented black spot on top of it. By squeezing the lump out, you might be clearing the pore, but you also risk pushing this sebum lump deeper inside, which causes more unnecessary damage that can result in unwanted, more severe scarring.

I believe squeezing zits is a risky business, and should not be attempted without extra care and supervision. However, we have all seen many of times that an untouched pimple worsens and becomes a horrible and painful zit.

I have also personally seen zits that could be safely extracted and the whole infected skin area healed perfectly within days. I would also add that the decision to pop the zits should be accompanied with complete care and knowledge.

Here are some important rules of thumb:

  • Wait until the pimple is fully blown and formed on the surface of your skin. Make sure it is showing signs of nearly bursting on its own, and that the skin simply does not have the ability to hold the pus any longer.
  • Avoid squeezing a reddish zit as you may probably damage the blood vessels nearby.
  • You can extract a blackhead if it shows a visible black cap and the skin around the blackhead is not swollen and reddish.
  • Obviously, before you start the operations to extract your zit, make sure you wash your hands. Cleanse your fingertips and under the nails thoroughly before getting started. This is to prevent any further contamination of the already swollen and inflamed pimple.
Use the right tools. There are metal whitehead and blackhead extractor on sale in your nearest pharmacy.
  • Be careful while piercing the acne. Take a sterile, fine needle and pierce the center of the lesion. Next gently squeeze the pimple and give equal amounts of pressure on every side. Continue until a clear liquid comes out.
  • Use a clean tissue to dab away the liquid.
  • Do not over-squeeze it until you see blood coming out of the zit. There is bad advice telling people that we should squeeze the acne until the blood comes out. They say it means that you have completely removed the pus.
  • Make sure you perform the operation with the highest level of care and hygiene. If you follow the guidelines stated above, you should be able to clear up your skin drastically.
